Ayme Loren’s PSA Video for Rett Syndrome:

When I first heard about Rett syndrome and was introduced to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation (IRSF), I knew I could use music to help raise awareness for the cause. Deeply moved and inspired by the stories of many families, I composed the song, “Silent Angels”, along with my friend, Lee Levin. The song is now a vehicle to help guide efforts toward raising funds for research so we may grow to understand the cause for this disorder.

Though children with Rett eventually lose the ability to talk, they communicate in their own special way. It is so important to get their message out there and educate the world so others can help make a difference. Scientific research has already yielded some exciting developments…We are so close. I am someone who shares in the dream of a cure. Come and join me on this journey toward making a dream come true.

Rett Syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder that occurs almost exclusively in girls. It is caused by mutations on the X chromosome on a gene called MECP2. It strikes all racial and ethnic groups, and occurs worldwide in 1 of every 10,000 female births.

International Rett Syndrome Foundation (IRSF) has played a critical role in driving scientific research forward through grant funding and has awarded over $20M in direct support of research grants towards innovative basic and preclinical research.

Her coffee’s turned cold in her hand, as the candle burns low

She says dream on, my sweet baby girl…The angels are here

Sitting back she can see through the pane…A star catches her eye

One by one they light up the sky, leading the way

We can be the voice for the silent angels

On this night of a thousand stars

Help the world to understand…it’s time to take a stand

As we fight the fight of a lifetime

We can be the voice for the silent angels

On this night of a thousand stars

Hold each other’s hand…it’s time to take a stand

For all the silent angels

You don’t have to speak to be heard…Just listen with your heart

As long as we let hope live on…the dream will never die

Joining together we’ll make waves to carry them home (guide them through the night)

Keep them safe, keep them warm, out of harm’s way

Hold out your hand…time to make that stand

Don’t give up…Don’t hold back…They’re standing there waiting for you
